Increased Nuisance Complaints Regarding Weeds and Grass

With the sunny weather and late seasonal rains, the City has been receiving an increasing number of complaints from citizens regarding the height of weeds and grass on neighboring properties. To improve community appearance, help prevent the spread of noxious vegetation, and to help protect against wildfires, the Municipal Code generally requires that weeds, grass, and noxious vegetation be maintained at a height of less than 12 inches. After receiving a complaint, and prior to issuing a citation, the Code Compliance Officer contacts the property owner, and requests voluntary compliance with the nuisance regulations. The City also has a significant amount of property, primarily at City Park and in street and alley rights-of-way throughout Bandon. To help keep noxious vegetation under control, the City has hired some temporary summer workers in the Public Works Department, whose primary responsibility is to mow weeds and grass on City property. Please help us protect the community health, safety, and welfare by keeping the weeds, grass, and noxious vegetation on your property maintained in accordance with the Municipal Code requirements. A copy of those regulations can be found on the City’s web site at www.ci.bandon.or.us. From the opening page, click on "Public Records," then click on "Municipal Code," then click on "Title 8 - Health and Safety," then scroll down to "Chapter 8.08 - Nuisances; Section 8.08.150, Noxious Vegetation."
